We have always had a focus on promoting and helping small businesses. As a small business ourselves we saw first-hand how much work, dedication, blood, sweat and tears goes into running your own business. We started with running markets all over Johannesburg for over 10 years and then in 2019 decided to venture out into retail. When Covid 19 hit many of our markets temporarily closed leaving exhibitors nowhere to sell their goods other than start a website or online sales.  We saw a huge gap and received many sad stories and pleas from them to assist with a platform for them to sell.

Going into retail space has been a dream of ours for a long time and finally in 2019 we were given an amazing opportunity and we took the plunge. Our flagship store in Bedford Center is our first store and it has done extremely well.  It has been so well received by the Center Management and the shoppers as it is “a breath of fresh air” amongst the other retail stores. Our tenants are all amazing and their products are really something to be proud of.

With the economy the way it is, small businesses are closing by the second and livelihoods affected in such drastic ways. We unfortunately feel that 2021 will not be any better for small businesses.

So, to help, we create beautiful spaces in which small business owners can showcase their items in order to gain the exposure of a big mall but at a discounted shared rental.

Covid 19 is wiping out these small businesses. Putting an end to people's dreams, side hustles, ways to put food on the table, create products and do what they love. Urban Spaces makes these dreams a reality again.
